How We Tracked Our Lap Of Australia!

We always get asked how we knew where to stay, eat, explore and do all the things we don't look forward to like emptying our Toilet, filling up water and where you can pull over for a quick bite to eat......... Introducing ........Our bible......... (Keep Reading Below)

WIKI CAMPS!!!! This is our secret, well not much of a secret as most Full time Travellers use it and we wouldn't have been able to do our trip without it. Below are a few of our tips on how best to use it and get the most out of it when you pull up to a new place to stay and explore.

  1. Once you have downloaded your app you can go through and set all your filters to the states you wish to show, free or cost camping, whether you want facilities at the next spot you stay ect. ( See Below)

2. Next you can start planning your trip, if you are like us and we mostly planned where to stay as we went you can log your trip after you arrive. This feature was fantastic not only because it shows everywhere you go but it also tells you how far you have travelled and logs dates etc.

3. Once you have finished your trip ( For us it took a year) you will be able to see on the map where your travels took you which I think is the coolest feature of this app. (Below)

4. You can also see on a timeline more info of where you travelled on what dates for how long so it's a great way to track, and hey during covid it came in handy to prove when crossing borders where we had previously been, the border staff loved it. We never logged Day trips really which would make the overall Km's a lot higher as we did plenty of driving back and forth and day trips so it just depends how you want to use it which everyone is different.

OVERVIEW:

For us this App helped in so many ways from finding water when we didn't stay at Caravan Parks to reading reviews about free camps before we went and deciding to change due to a large number of negative points or even finding the odd secret spot that someone has dropped a pin after they found out about it and lastly it works offline and the amount of times i relied on finding a place on wiki following the road because we had no reception for GPS it was a lifesaver.

For $7.99 its the best value app you can purchase to make your trip planning so much more easy and hey if you find somewhere you think is great and isnt on there you too can add a spot in.

We always tried to leave reviews on our trip, sometimes you forget but the majority we always left a comment on whether it was a good or a no go so make sure you have input as that is what the camping community is relying on.

We always get asked alot of questions about our planning and map so I hope this has been helpful in planning your lap or even your weekend away.

As always travel safe and be kind to each other.

Kurt and Carly xx
